How We Started

In 1954, a young business graduate, Chand Tarneja, began work in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India, for a hot rolled steel window and door manufacturer.  Chand’s career began as a sales agent for the company.  He enjoyed the window and door business immensely and he learned all aspects of the industry over the next 14 years with the manufacturer.  In 1966, Chand followed his brothers to Ontario, Canada, bringing his knowledge and passion for the industry with him, along with his wife Vilma and two small children, Sunil and Poonam.
By 1972, Chand made the tough decision to venture out on his own and put his skills to work when he founded C.T. Windows (CTW).  Chand developed new and innovative products centered around his knowledge of hot rolled steel windows and doors.  Very quickly, CTW became a well-respected, locally made and engineered manufacturer.  CTW bid and won work on some of Ontario’s many new and architecturally significant buildings as well as historical renovations. A few of those highly recognizable projects included: Parliament Buildings, Toronto City Hall, York University, and several projects at the University of Toronto.

Family Owned Company

Building on the patriarch’s success, Chand’s son, Sunil, joined his father at CTW in 1982.  Sunil continued, and expanded the family’s steel window and door manufacturing business.  In response to the oil crisis and the on-going rise in energy costs and conservation efforts, Sunil introduced sustainable architectural window designs; Extruded Aluminum, thermally broken products.  With this, the product line grew to aluminum windows and skylights.
In response to the growing U.S. market, CTW opened a second manufacturing plant in Orlando, Florida, in 1992.  CTW continued manufacturing steel windows and other products in Canada until 2007 when their Pickering, Ontario, plant was closed due to Chand’s well-deserved retirement after 60+ years in the industry.

A Bright Future

CTW’s long history of pride and tradition continues with their Orlando manufacturing plant.  Their plant continues to develop and manufacture forward-looking products which have evolved from humble beginnings of Steel Windows and Doors to a current portfolio of Unitized Curtain Wall, Engineered Wood Curtain Wall and Architectural Windows.
